Spring Style Story - Shabby Garden

Last year we had the pleasure of creating a styled photo shoot for spring. This is something we would like to, and were planning on, doing every season but unfortunately we have only managed to get three done so far! You can view our Winter Style Story {here} and our Summer Style Story will be up on the blog soon. We created the concept and styled the shoot using our floral designs and hire range and had a wonderful team of contributors who made it all happen. Held on the beautiful Mount Tamborine at the stunning venue The Old Church.

Stationary provided by Follow Studio and handmade soap favours available through Imbue Weddings. The cute cake and treats for the sweets table were from My Sweetopia.

For the flowers we embraced early spring and used loads of andromeda, ranunculus in all shades of pink and white and soft pink roses.

Real Wedding - Alison & Grant

Alison's wedding bouquet was a stunning group of bright yellow vanda orchids with a collar of cymbidiums in white and a green and white striped grass. Grant's boutonniere featured a single gorgeous cymbidium with the grass detail and jute string banding.

Winter bouquets with colour!

Winter flowers available in Queensland are not always boring and thanks to importing we have access to some of the most amazing blooms in stunning colours. Some imports like peonies will be very expensive but others like hyacinths and tulips are very affordable. And then there are orchids, readily available, affordable and in so many delicious colours. Our favourites right now are cymbidium orchids which come in white (pictured above right), a gorgeous pistachio green, bronze, yellow, burgundy and more. Other winter flowers for colour include poppies, snapdragons and stock.

Autum Style Shoot

A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of working on a creative shoot with some industry professionals. The shoot's original concept was "meringue" but it seemed to take on a slightly more rustic and raw finish in the end. The colour palette was, from the beginning, very warm and earthy. After seeing the location with the tall grasses, weeping willows and open fields with the mountain behind I wanted to incorporate that in the florals so I went on a late night misson to find some native australian grass plumes. The flowers we used were palest pink hyacinths, full blown latte, cream and peach roses, montbrethia pods, belladonna seed pods with dusty miller leaves and fine leaf gum. The little fabric rossetes to decorate the soap favours and as a brooch on the bouquet were all hand sewn using linens, muslin and silk dupion. A few mismatched vintage chairs, our french love seat, a tarnished silver goblet and our old fruit and tea boxes completed the look. Autumn is a wonderful time for flowers. You might think it isn't as exciting as spring when we have an abundance of peonies, garden roses, lilacs and ranunculi. But I love it for the textural elements and the suprising amounts of bright colours to be had. You can be more adventurous and the modern wedding suits a really exciting and daring bouquet. All of the bouquets in this post can be made with flowers in their natural season or imports and hot house flowers.

Winter Style Story - Provincial Parisian

Our Provincial Parisian Style Story is all about understated elegance. It's vintage class with a touch of rustic charm. In a colour palette of warm neutrals, white and black we created a table setting, a dessert table with a difference and had our beautiful "bridesmaid" dressed in soft, flowing silk chiffon and warm, luxurious fur (faux of course!). White stock and sweet pea flowers and dramtic white and black anemones completed the design.

Modern Weddings Feature

We used our black candle sticks and wine glasses, our crystal and silver candle holders and our gorgeous scalloped silver charger plates. One Table, two ways!

This month we were invited by The Lane to take part in their table styling competition. So one afternoon, after an inspiring (and cold) morning trip to the flower market we ended up doing two settings for Kristie from ngg studios to photograph. Sometimes I like to just wing it and not plan too much, just kind of making it up as I go along which allows for the design to take shape more naturally. However it also means that sometimes you get too many ideas and it's hard to choose which direction you will go, which is why we ended up doing two tables. At the market I saw the most amazing bunch of green raspberries and had already decided to use navy on the table somewhere. But on my way out I found a few bunches of cute little billy buttons hidden in a corner. So our two tables are Berries and Billy Buttons.

Bronze and Gold Wedding Flowers

Beautiful bridal party flowers we did for a garden wedding last Sunday. All lovely tones of gold and bronze.

The Bouquet is of creme de la creme roses, honeymoon roses, bronze cymbidium orchids, calla lilies and a collar of magnolia leaves.

The stems were bound with ivory satin ribbon overlayed with bronze shimmer ribbon french twisted the entire length and studded with pearl headed pins.

The Grooms boutonniere is of a perfect bronze cymbidium orchid paired with a single magnolia leaf.

A corsage of a stunning solitary golden cymbidium offset with yellow freesias and upside down magnolia foliage.

Studio Brides Feature

Some of our floral designs recently graced the pages of Studio Brides magazine. YAY! This is the first time we have had the very big honour of being published - though it certainly won't be the last - keep an eye out for us in the next issues of Discerning Bride, Modern Weddings and also Cosmo Bride.

Our "Something Blue" bouquet of red parrot tulips and red spider orchid with an ivory bow and a tiffany blue feature ribbon (which you can JUST see poking out beneath).

An interview and an image of our white and green Vintage Garden posy of white lisanthus, white roses, privet berry and nerine lilies. All tied with a to-die-for wrap of champagne dupion silk and a quirky little green and white gingham ribbon. The poor little thing did get a little bit crushed on it's way down to Sydney.

We can't say we're not absolutely stoked!!

Anna and Paul Invitations

We designed with Invite With Style some gorgeous invitations based on a Cheree berry design for Anna and Pauls September wedding. Using a colour palette of red, white and grey we created a logo using a scrawly handwritting with tails extending all the way to the edges of the paper and looping into a heart in the middle. The clear envelopes on the backing card were secured by sewing on red thread into little bows.

Cherilee and Adam - Flowers

Cherilee's wedding flowers were white and green with purple as a shot of contrast colour. We made a gorgeous tear drop shaped bouquet for her with posies for the bridesmaids. Adam and Cherilee were married in Currumbin last month.

A hand tied tear drop bouquet of Purple Hyacinths, Queen of the Night Tulips, Purple Lisianthus, Purple Freesia and Green Privet Berry with a leaf collar.

The bridesmaids had hand tied posies of white and green parrot tulips half closed, white hyacinth, white lisianthus, white roses, green and white hydrangea and green privet berry with leaf collars.

The centrepieces were of white lisianthus, white roses, white hydrangea and green privet berry. The larger centrepieces also had willow stems and a sprinkling of purple hyacinth.

Purple is a colour you don't often see in country garden style weddings and we love that there's a vintage spin on such a bold colour. Coral Coast Dessert Bar

One of our dessert bar designs was featured on the Polka Dot Bride blog yesterday. It's a table inspired by the freshness of the sea with lovely textural elements of seagrass and coral designs. The bright turquoise is subdued and kept light and airy with lots of white and neutral tones.

The cake and cupcakes were made by Taya from Deliciously Decadent Cake Design.

Collette Dinnigans Snow White Collection

When I saw on my favourite blog Polka Dot Bride today that Collette Dinnigan has released her latest bridal collection "Snow White" I knew I had to share it with you right away. I love this collection so much more than her last. I think it might be thanks to the photography, all that distressed wood and bagged brick is the perfect backdrop but it might have something to do with the gowns being just amazingly simple and elegant. Collettes designs always make me think of ballerinas, they look effortless and have a simple grace (even though you know there's alot of work involved to get them that way.)

Thankfully no one sent us an inspiration board through last week so there was no need to post any last friday. We were so busy with the expo that we would'nt have found the time if there had been. Gold Coast Wedding Guide Expo

What a tiring day! Expos are exhausting (but convenient) to visit and you leave at the end of it with sore arms from bags of brochures and cards. Being an exhibitor is a different story entirely and a very fun one! It was great to meet some people in the industry we have only ever spoken to over the phone or email as well as some new brides and grooms (and mothers and bridesmaids! ) And to see some of the newer businesses emerging on the Gold Coast is very exciting.

Thank you to everyone who stopped to have a chat with us at the expo. Your interest and compliments were very appreciated.

Above: Our stall featured our Signature Collection called "Hamptons" a beautiful combination of french provinical style and refined coastal elegance.

Below: On the other side we showcased our Glamour range which included silver and black wine glasses, black candle holders and cake plate and our gorgeous silver charger plates with scalloped edging.

Our only regret from the whole day was that we didn't have power for our garment steamer so we could attack those wrinkly linens!

We're starting something new! Every season we will be featuring what we are calling our Style Stories. Each one will be full of styling ideas and most will either showcase a tablescape or dessert table or both and lots of luscious details. This seasons Style Story is "Eco Vintage". We're combining vintage milk glass, gorgeous textural flowers like chincherinchee and bouvardia, pure natural linen, and earthy rustic details like jute string. For a teaser of what's to come here are a few photos we took as we were preparing for the big photo shoot next week.

2010 Weddings Style Forecast

I hope you all had a wonderful christmas and new year! Thank you for all your support in 2009 and we hope you stop by throughout 2010. To our new readers welcome!

We're very excited about 2010 here at Imbue Weddings. We have lots of beautiful weddings ahead as well as the launch of our own Boutique Hire Range next month with the release of our 2010 Catalogue.

So to kick start the year here are our style predictions for 2010.

No.1

Simply Gorgeous Beach Weddings

Beach weddings in Queensland have always been a bit tropical, casual and easy going. This year we predict a trend toward a more simple and sophisticated approach. The normal white folding chairs are out with brides choosing more unique options like bench seats or cushions. The colour palatte also gets a make over with the stunning washed out neutral colours of the beach taking main focus over bright jewel tones.

Vintage is back

Did it ever go away? With the focus being huge on neutral colour schemes this year vintage takes on a new identity. A grown up version which is elegant and refined but pared down with natural textures. Vintage Milk Glass is growing in popularity and once only seen in American weddings will start to emerge as a very popular centrepiece choice for brides.

Different Dessert Bars

Not just about lots of candies, dessert bars are now featuring more mini treats like tiny cakes and tarts or truffles. Still very popular and will continue to be so with more styling options being provided to couples.

No.4

Top Colour - Blue!

Not just something blue. The hues of blue this year are far more grown up and stylish. Forget baby blues or pale, washed out tones. China blues and blue greys take centrestage on a background of warm neutrals. Wedgwood blue and duck eggs add vintage charm to even the most boring bases.

A touch of rustic

Full rustic weddings are a thing of the past. This year expect to see elegant, classic styling accented with french provincial touches. Beautiful tables with simple flowers and refined ceremonies are kept grounded with textures like distressed wood, white washed wicker and the odd bit of tarnished silver.

Gorgeous floating flowers and embroidered voile place setting!

This is a mock up of a place setting idea we are doing for a wedding next february. Isn't it so fresh and pretty? The embroidered voile strip as a placemat was a cost saving idea (the fabric is so expensive but the bride loved it and had to have it!). Our bride also loves gardenias but they don't do well as a cut flower in Queensland's heat and tend to brown easily. Her mother has a garden full of them so we came up with the floating bowl idea to keep them looking fresh. We've also used our french provincial charger plates with our blue bordered napkin and a striped organza ribbon. For the glassware we'll be using our taupe stemmed Rafael wine glasses mixed and matched with plain glass tumblers and champagne flutes.

Sneak Peek 2 - from our Sealife Dessert Bar Shoot

Last Friday we had a lot of fun putting together our first dessert bar design for our 2010 Style Catalogue. And the best part? We got to eat the yummy (lemon mud) cake afterwards! The cake was designed by Imbue and made by Taya from Deliciously Decadent Cake Design.

We put our cupcakes in these cute little pleated cups (30 cents each from Imbue Weddings) and added the striped flags (below) to our blue cupcakes for individual shots (15 cents each from Imbue Weddings).

Create a wedding logo using a sketch of an old country cottage for using on your all your wedding stationary.

Guest seating plan written on the glass of old windows and set up on a table filled with country garden flowers. Add some photos of family to personalise and you could even keep the guest book on this table. A great way to greet your guests!

FAVOURS

Jams and preserves make fantastic favours. Make your own with love or try one of the beautiful range at The Bramble Patch Berry Gardens (my favourite little find in the granite belt of south east queenland).

A birdhouse or a trio of them make great little wishing wells for guests to drop off their gifts of money and cards.

Succulents can add a certain edge to a contemporary wedding. Mix in with garden posies for a quirky look or use with a cool coloured palette for a really sophisticated and trendy look.

You can get succulents as a cut "flower" from any good florist but I'd go for fake - you really can't tell them apart. Here is a sample of what we have available through Imbue Weddings.

Lavender is in season at the moment and it always reminds me of spring, of the promise of warmer months and of the approaching Christmas season. When I gaze toward my window to take a rare glimpse away from my computer I am gifted with not only the cute little sight of my new enamel tin jug (thank you IKEA) but of a waft of fresh lavender on the breeze (along with the freesia just outside my window - another favourite). I am always reminded at times like these of some of the best advice I've ever been given - "happiness is found in the hidden joy of every day moments".

I know I haven't been a very entertaining blogger lately. Very soon I will be able to post some really exciting designs proposals I have been working on for my beautiful brides so you can all see what I have been up to these last few weeks. Stay posted!

Beautiful Blushing Brides

This striking flower was used commonly as a bridal flower in southern Africa which is where it's name is thought to come from. Suitors were known to propose with a bloom of the wild flower in their lapel, the darker the pink of the flower, the more serious their intention.

While the name blushing bride might have come from its colouring, it may also have been earned as the bride would blush and certainly the groom on his walk through town to his bride to be. Unfortunately, these flowers were over-exploited due to their popularity and disappeared for over a century before they were accidentally rediscovered. Carefully sustained since, they do well in Queenslands climate and are available from July through to September. The petals have a nice papery feel to them and their form makes stunning bouquets. They come in a range of pink hues and creams.

Real Wedding - Tom and Brea

This beautiful wedding was photographed by the extremely talented Jonas Peterson. Tom and Brea's relaxed day is captured wonderfully as well as the effortless style of the wedding which is just divine.

The girls getting ready. I love the blue and rose coloured dresses together.

The boys enjoy a beer and a game of bowls before getting into their suits.

Brea's bouquet was a hand tied arrangement of freesia, roses and lisianthus whilst Tom's buttonhole featured a sprig of freesia.

The guests were given a seating chart using a mix and match array of frames on an easel marking the entrance. The guest book sits on a table with two beautiful arrangements of snapdragons, fressia, roses, lisanthus and lily of the valley with white letters spelling LOVE.

The table centrepieces feature an elegant and understated arrangement of white flowers in vases clustered together and set off by ornate silver candle sticks.

The clear marquee was draped with whisper thin dark chiffon and fairy lights.

A simple setting

There's no flowers or centrepieces on the table and the only adornment on the buffet table which circles a tree are potted plants and the food. Pink paired with silver gives off such a Hollywood glamour vibe. Think polished shiny surfaces and a gown that's red carpet worthy. Don't go overboard though. Keep it slightly casual with light touches of lace and flowers which have more of a garden feel and the whole style of the wedding will be very pretty whilst still maintaining a glitzy edge.

If you want to try a DIY approach to your flowers, thereby saving even more money, then have a look at these handy little how to's for creating your own bridal bouquet:

1. To make the perfect posy, you'll need to take into consideration a lot of important elements. For someone who is a first timer I would recommend going for a style of bouquet which lends itself to a less than perfect approach. This means a more natural garden style bouquet which doesn't have much of a focus on shape. It's quite hard to create the perfect dome you might see in some all-rose bouquets, so go for something more natural and roughly shaped.

2. Next choose your flowers and foliages. The easiest to work with are hot house roses (buy them short because you pay for the stem!), most greenery, and singapore orchids.

3. The stems should all be cut so that you have at least two inches below your little finger when you clasp the bouquet from the top of the stems. This gives you a better balance so it's easier to hold all through the day.

Idyllic Aisle Style

A garden aisle need not just be a grass path with a few sprinkled petals and maybe even a strip of cloth. Create something unique and think outside the box! These are some of my favourite ideas - perfect for Australia's garden wedding.

Above: Keep things simple with the aisle marked out by chairs each with its own arrangement of flowers in rectangular tins.

Japanese paper lanterns line the aisle along a lakeside path for a romantic ceremony at dusk.

A carpet of white petals weaves its way through a forest of ancient trees. For lighting, tall garden spikes are transformed into makeshift lanterns.

Again a carpet of petals creates the aisle though this time in pinks and yellows. Line the path with huge hurricane vases filled with floating candles.

Every bride wants a beautiful bouquet of flowers on her wedding day. Wedding flowers however can take up a hefty chunk of your budget. Saving money on your bouquets and buttonholes doesn't mean you have to compromise on your dreams of stunning flowers. Use these smart tips for buying flowers for your day.

Tip 1.

It all depends on the type of flower you choose. Following are a few of the most affordable ones:

- Lisianthus - Perfect for replacing more expensive types of roses and peonies.

- Carnations - So cheap but some think ugly so be warned. Make sure your florist knows how to use these well.

- Hot House Roses - Mass manufactured roses are best especially in an all rose bouquet. Don't go for garden roses unless you're prepared to pay for them.

- Singapore Orchids - Use these instead of the more expensive orchids such as the cymbidiums or phalaenopsis.

Tip 2.
Fill your bouquet out with greenery. Doing so will keep costs way down and not only that but a bouquet with lots of greenery is perfect for a more relaxed garden wedding.

Tip 3.

Let your flowers choose you. Go for something that's in season and grown locally. By being flexible you'll have flowers which because they're in season are more stunning.
